Hello my name is Monica and Mono is my artist nickname. I am the co-owner of Little Blue Joint and wife of Chef Michael Campbell. I love that we can blend everything we do together to make LBJ a destination spot for great food, interesting artwork, and a family friendly atmosphere to hang out in.

Artist Statement

It all begins in the studio. I turn up my favorite music and get into deep thought. What would I like hanging on my walls? What is next on this painting? Prepare my palette. Colors…. doodling on canvas with my graphite, stretching canvas, and smearing gesso on with my bare hands. I love it.

I suppose I am a self-taught artist. I have continued to paint now for 20 years with many influences by my side without a college degree or fancy school on my resume. I am grateful for my desire and talent and as long as I am in my studio playing and creating visually satisfying work I am happy.

I try not to analyze or categorize my work. I love surrealism, abstract, low brow, and modern art. When I look at a painting I want to see brush strokes and lines of paint, great color combinations and have a comfortable feeling with the subject matter. I am not looking perfectionism or realism.

My favorite quote sums up my style:

“Grasp what lies at the very heart; transform nature by infusing it with one’s own mind and spirit”  -Emil Nolde

-Mono

I’m the proud owner of the Driftwood stump painting. I have long coveted the painting “Gratitude” with the buffalo skull. Most people don’t see the bullet hole in the middle of the skull, so they might wonder why it’s titled thusly…
